Deus Apollo

The Ancient Family Structure

How would one go about un-doing (more than) 2000 years of human history? This is a pivotal question that the Apollonians face at the time being. After the REM-book finally comes out, courses on REM-Analysis have been followed, and dinners have been attended, we must finally come up with some sort of sythesis, or implementation of Apollo is the main diety in our lives.

One place to start would be the with where ’the West’ began, and what societies looked like in the times of early Western civilization. In our modern conception of society, the mantra upheld by conservatives and the like would be that the building block of the society is the nuclear family, which must maintain it’s sovereignty and must also be ‘respected’. I would argue that we can go a step further and state that the individual is the building block of our modern 21st century society. This is the smallest dividable unit of which the dionysian fest. It is the node in our social media networks, the unit that must be emancipated above all, and where both sides of the politcal aisle espout caring about ‘personal freedoms.’

Indo-European family structure looked quiet different, where cities states were formed through various families in geographic proximity settling on the a single location of to worship. The ancient city state like Athens, Sparta and Corinth started out as religious centres of worship, out of which the politcal structure we are more familiar with sprouted. From the modern viewpoint of living in a liberal elective parliamentary democracy one might quickly assume that the ancient Athenian magically spawned the first ‘democracy’ out of thin air, however, this politcal structure came to existence to regulate the society forming around these central centres of worship. This is where the concept of the city state comes from.

Each family would commit to the practices of ancestor worship and in the center of the home, above the homely fire. Ancestors of previous generations, often patres familias, would be honored and venerated to the status of familial diety. It is around these dieties that the identity of the family would be formed. Now, let’s say a few families or clans from a specific geopgraphic location would settle around a center of worship of a common diety, which allow the clans to cohere to a single identity of the city state. This is where most of the Olympian dieties familiar to us came into being, as common ancestors of all the families of the city state, and in some city states, this would be Deus Apollo, the Hyperborian, ancestor of the Aryans.
